Every room, every wall we are making our own, we design one step at a time which leads us to the next project our fireplace. This was an easy one day project but made a tremendous difference.
Let me show you what it looked like before, when we first bought our home.
Gold surround, weird cabinet on the side, was not symmetrical or appealing to the eye. However the crown detail around the fireplace was nice, so we decided to keep it and work with it. Hubby took the ship-lap out and fixed the hole in the wall. We had also prior painted our walls green and TV was hung to the side of the fireplace. We lived like this for 8 years.
Until one day the show "Fixer Upper" had inspired me and I absolutely fell in love with modern farmhouse style. Neutral colors, natural textures and materials like light woods with a touch of industrial elements gave me that warm, cozy feeling and I had to have it in my own home. So we decided it is time to renovate again and that is how Design One Step At A Time was created.
So we painted our walls Soft Chamois by Benjamin Moore and started to design wall by wall. Okay back to the fireplace. To soften this fireplace up my husband handmade a wooden mantel, made out of ash wood, the same wood we are carrying throughout our house.
We then took the surround off the fireplace and spray painted black.
Since gold surround is out of style we used Rust-Oleum High Heat Ultra Enamel Spray and painted black for that clean look. The result is everything that we hoped it would be.
