In my first blog post from “Things I’ve Learned” we are going to talk about rugs. Rugs complete the space, rugs make any space look and feel cozy and the right rug will make any room look more stylish. Color, shape and size of a rug can make a huge impact on the way your room looks. So if you don't have a rug in your living room, it is time to get one.

Just within days this little house was built. My hubby and I compromised on the shed, that it would look like a She Shed on the outside but a He Shed on the inside, because that's what marriage is all about compromise, right?!
With the heat wave it took us a bit longer then expected to finish this but it was worth the wait. I present to you our Modern Farmhouse She / He Shed:

This has been a fantastic remodel journey this far and I thank you for following along. I always enjoyed interior design, however as I got older my design, my style has changed. When I was younger I loved bold colors, like the lime green wall in Tim’s and mine first apartment together or red walls in our dining room in our house. Maybe it is something about being young and wild, haha… Don’t get me wrong, those colors are still beautiful, and I am still young and wild lol **wink** but it limits you to your decorating. Going neutral with the walls gives you a lot more options of being able to change your colors throughout your house without being stuck to only lime green or red…
I only recently developed this love for Modern Farmhouse Style. It is the warm, cozy feeling that I fell in love with and I wanted to spread that love throughout our house. It started with the kitchen and now the living room. What's next? Dining room and our hallway....
I am so thankful for my husband who does such an amazing job in making my vision a reality. His craftsmanship is so beautiful and so detail oriented. He loves building furniture and does such a great job at it. The mirror, the coffee table, the mental, the laptop station, even the wooden vase was all handmade by him. I am just so blessed to have him in my life.

It all started when my sweet dog Shadow decided to eat the couch. Yes, you read that right! Agh, I remember like it was yesterday coming home from work and not being able to see the floor as it was covered, full of cushion stuffing. There he was hiding under the chair looking all innocent with those sweet puppy eyes. So I stitched the couch back up and then it happened again, and then again… At this point we knew that Shadow had something against this couch and he wasn’t going to stop until there was nothing left of it, it was turning into a habit. So one day my friend was remodeling and asked if we wanted her old couch, without a hesitation we took it.
I am so excited to share this project with you. I’ve been dreaming of it for a very long time. It is honestly one of my favorite spots in this house this far. It is perfect, dreamy and full of inspiration.
When you decorate with meaningful items, your home becomes homier and the feeling of your home becomes cozier. Your home is your personality, your style, your life and that's what makes every home so unique.
Sometime ago I drew out how I wanted our living room wall to look like. On the right side of our fireplace I drew a big grid mirror with a chair in front of it and a tree to the side.
Sometimes there is this urge to get something done, however there are certain things that stop you from getting it done at that moment, it could be time, money, knowledge or simply motivation. But when it finally gets done, it is a rush of excitement and a sense of accomplishment. Seeing your vision turn into a reality is the best feeling in the world. At least for me! So here on Design One Step At A Time we had accomplished yet another project, dinning room Gallery Wall.
Converting our old chandelier to more of a modern farmhouse chandelier was pretty easy and I am super happy with the end result. Little by little we are trying to update our home to more of a modern farmhouse style and our old chandelier was just not fitting with the style, so instead of getting rid of it, we had recycled it.
